Issey Mikaye was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. This innovative fashion designer survived the atomic bombing of World War Ii as a youth and went on to study graphic design in Tokyo at Tama Art University. After a colorful fashion career around the world, he established his own studio in 1970.
